"Pretty Pistol Tony" shows off the harder side of Lah-Kid
When you hear Tristan "Lah-Kid" Brown's voice, you are immediately taken by surprise and forced to listen because it's so different from the norm.
Caught somewhere between Lil Wayne and Dana Coppafeel, Lah-Kid delivers street rhymes with skills and versatility.
The rapper, who has conducted interviews with local entertainment and Kush national giant shadow 45 on XM Radio recently released a new mixtape, "CMK 3: Gun Pretty Tony," which depicts the story of a veteran gangster trouble to stay on top - similar to most mafia films that are so embraced by our culture.
These are the stories of crime, success, failure, etc., surrounding Brown also in real life. Although the music may not be autobiographical, the character he wrote was at least in the wheelhouse of his environment.
I recently spoke with Brown about his aspirations and motivations.
OnMilwaukee.com: How long have you been rapping and put to music?
Tristan Brown: I've been rapping since I was a kid, but I was put to music for five years now.
JI: Known as a "hood" rapper with little recognition of the East Side, in your mind that there are hard feelings to publications in Milwaukee who choose to write about rap back more than the 'hood "?
TB: Absolutely not. I feel sorry for some of the publications that are limited to only a certain kind of hip-hop because they are really close to some good artists and great music.
OMC: What you are trying to accomplish with your music? Is it purely for the fame and money or is it something more than superficial?
TB: My ultimate goal is to motivate and inspire young people to pursue their dreams. I also would like to be respected and considered one of the greatest. Fame is something I can live without, but I'd be lying if I said I did not want money. Everyone wants that. Everyone!
OMC: You work a lot with Reason producer. What is Reason beats that will make you return to him for music?
